Dry cracked heels? Here are some tips on how to deal with them

Dry and cracked heels are not a pleasant view to anyone especially to the owner and besides this they are quite painful and disturbing. There are a lot of things you can do for feeling better and for getting a healthy feet aspect. I will post here easy but very effective things you can do, even at a low cost for getting your feet back on track again.

Feet

Wash your feet everyday with warm water and baby soap preferably (this type of soap will not dry your feet as a regular soap) and dry them up very well, paying close attention to the skin in between the toes. Act gently and avoid rubbing this area for you will do nothing but harm. If you feel like it in the water you will wash your feet at the end of the day you can add special feet bathing products that will help your skin maintain its moisture. If you do not have such a product at hand you can use natural elements that you have in your own kitchen for moisturizing your heels. Think of honey for example.

Honey can be used as a face mask alone or combined with other natural ingredients. If honey is good for the face skin that is so fragile, why wouldn’t be great for dry feet too? So, you can either add a few spoons of honey in your bathing water (and let your feet rest there for 10 minutes and then rise your feet with clear water) or you can use honey for a feet mask. Apply honey generously on your heels and the top side of your feet and then cover the area up with a warm towel. Leave this feet mask to work for 20 minutes and then rise it off with water.

A cream or a foot ointment is always welcomed and should be used regularly especially if you know you feet have the tendency to dry easily. Creams that contain shea butter, vitamin E and glycerin are the best to use for dry heels and feet. Also, keep in mind that free of perfume and alcohol feet creams are the best to use on a dry skin. An intense feet repair treatment would consist of generously applying moisturizing cream on your feet before bedtime and then pulling on a pair of clean cotton socks and leaving them on for the night. In the morning your feet will look a lot better and less cracked or dry.

Also, make sure your diet includes aliments that are rich in vitamin A (this is one of the vitamins that keep your skin healthy) like carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach and pumpkin.

Sometimes cracked heels are a sign that you might suffer of a local fungus infection and this is why you can’t prevent your skin from getting dry even when using a foot moisturizer. In this case you should go see a dermatologist. If your feet are affected by a fungus infection you will probably receive one or two creams that will get you rid of that infection in a week or two.

Hepatitis B and its symptoms

Health is a common aspect in most cultures, infact all communities have their concepts of health as a part of their culture.

WHO defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity.” Health and disease lie alongside and there is no single cut off point. Diseases may be of many types and are categorized differently. Leprosy is a chronic disease and is probably the oldest disease known to mankind.

It’s an infectious disease which mainly affects the peripheral nerves; it majorly affects the skin, muscles, eyes, bones, testes and internal organs. It is characterized by hypo pigmented patches, partial or total loss of sensation in the affected areas and presence of thickened nerves. Leprosy is caused by M.leprae. They occur characteristically in clumps or bundles. Its diagnosis is through interrogation, physical examination through inspection of the body, testing loss of sensation in the skin patches. Chemotherapy alone is not likely to solve the whole problem of leprosy and leprosy is a long term activity, therefore planning and programme management is essential. The other disease is Hepatitis B which is an acute systematic infection with major pathology in the liver, caused by hepatitis B virus and transmitted usually by the parenteral route.

Hepatitis B is endemic throughout the world. It has been estimated that more than 2 billion people are infected with the disease globally.HBV occurs in three morphological forms in the serum of a patient (a)small particles with an average diameter (b)tubules of varying length and diameter and (c) the Dane particle which corresponds morphologically to hepatitis. Many adults have many or no symptoms, some of the symptoms are loss of appetite, malaise i.e. feeling of ill health, dark urine, abdominal pain and jaundice. Few patients experience severe course of illness, and may collapse with fatigue and develop swelling in the abdomen.

Is Smoking All Detrimental?

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”—this is how smoking works. Why? We cannot deny that smoking is found pleasurable and comforting by a lot of people, most especially those who have already been used to this vice and perhaps have already considered smoking as a need rather than a want. We see them everywhere—in school, or outside the school gate in case smoking is prohibited inside, outside the buildings or in the smoking lounges, in the streets, clubs, bars, etc. We see them everywhere and the worst part of it all is that we also inhale a portion of what they smoke—which many scientists believe is more detrimental to the health.

To give a balanced opinion as to the effects of smoking, let us look at both sides of smoking. Here are the perceived advantages that people experience as smoking effects:

Perceived Benefits of Smoking

Actually, referring to them as benefits is not likely. First of all, smoking can lead to a lot side effects and health threats and there is no scientific proof that gives smoking a footing. However, many people, especially those addicted to smoking view smoking as (1) a means to cope with stress as it lessens their anxieties, (2) smoking can be a stimulant and increases one’s focus to work and other tasks, and (3) smoking as a means of coping up with friends and social classes.

We can hardly consider these as benefits since these effects are subjective and can also be achieved through other healthier means.

Negative Smoking Effects

On top of this list is morbidity on the respiratory tract. COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is directly linked to smoking, in fact, many people, especially men, above the age of 50 who have been heavy smokers are most likely to develop COPD (includes Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema). Furthermore, smoking can also be linked a number of other respiratory diseases like asthma flare ups, pneumonia, etc. In terms of malignancies, lung cancer is considered as an undisputed topper.

On to the cardiovascular health, the chemicals that we take in when we smoke are various and mostly, if not all, detrimental to health. Smoking causes constriction of the blood vessels, thus most people, after smoking are expected to have higher than normal blood pressure. An increase in the heart rate occurs as compensatory mechanism to this effect and will put strain to the heart. Furthermore, smoking leads to scarring and accumulation of fatty and cholesterol deposits to the blood vessels leading to atherosclerosis and heart failure, if not heart attack.

Why Smoking Is Considered A Threat to Health?

Smoking has been considered as the primary cause of many illnesses—not only in terms of respiratory related diseases, but also in terms of cardiovascular conditions… not to mention that these diseases are the most common causes of mortality today. Apart from that fact, smoking is also related to the occurrence of malignancy or cancer. We have to take note that when we speak of cancer, lung cancer is the number one cancer in terms of morbidity and mortality. Adding to this fact is the growing occurrence of oral and laryngeal cancer, which can also be attributed to smoking.
